Two ways to solve any problem

There are two ways to solve any problem. Change what you do, or change what you have. That's it.

If what you're doing now isn't getting the results you want, then think of what you can stop, do more or less of.

If you're not doing something that could help you, work out how to start.

If there are things you have now that are holding you back, work out how to get rid of them.

Or if there are things you don’t have yet that would make succeeding easier, find out how you can build, buy or borrow them.

Often a combination of changing what you do and have creates the perfect solution.

Elon Musk's Space X needed to find a way to reduce the costs of sending rockets into space to be competitive long term. Common practice was each rocket was single use.

He decided he needed to have a new type of rocket to reduce costs substantially. One that would do what others couldn't, return back to earth safely and be reused.

Developing new rocket technology is what he decided to DO. That gave him something he didn't HAVE before, a reusable rocket that dramatically lowered the cost of space flight. The reusable Falcon 9 rocket costs around 60% less than single use competitors to launch into space.

Solving challenges we haven't encountered before can seem daunting where we don't have a ready answer.

But by narrowing your focus on two things: 1. changing what you DO or 2. changing what you HAVE, it makes figuring out the right solution a whole lot easier.
